Welcome to the Masters Academy of martial arts...

1. Fitness & Health

We believe that fitness and health are the cornerstone of martial arts training and therefore emphasise helping our students improve their fitness through sound sports science principles. Both James and Matt have sport science degrees and have continued their professional education in order to pass on cutting edge training and information. Being fit and healthy in body and mind is the foundation of martial arts success

2. Functional Martial Arts Skills

Masters Academy training develops functional skills that can be applied across a broad range of situations against various resisting opponents. Everything that we teach we have personally tested in sparring, in the ring or in the cage. We are very careful not to teach unrealistic untested techniques that would leave you vulnerable if you ever tried them for real. What we teach works for most people.

3. Friendly

Masters Academy training is for everyone regardless of age, gender or experience. Everyone can benefit from martial arts and we teach a variety of styles which are suitable for most people including kids karate, kickboxing, mixed martial arts, escrima, brazilian jui jitsu and keysi. The only people we do not tolerate are bullies and those with egos that are out of control. We are all friends and everyone treats each with respect and support.

4. Fun

Both James and I have been training in martial arts for over 23 years and expect to train for the rest of our lives. If you are to study martial arts as a lifelong pursuit then you have to be having fun. Enjoying your training is essential to keep you fresh and motivated. Our classes are held in a very relaxed but disciplined atmosphere. Lots of laughing and joking while training hard. As Bruce Lee said, You should train seriously, but don't seriously train.

We hope you enjoy training at Masters Academy and look forward to taking you to Black Belt and beyond!

glove WOMEN'S SYLLABUS

We have created a women's syllabus for those women interested in learning effective self defence skills along with their kickboxing skills. Whilst kickboxing is a great sport it does not fully address various situations (such as counters to grips, holds, hair pulls etc) that could arise in a self defence scenario. For this reason the women's syllabus will cover all these essential skills, plus the full syllabus that the men cover. However, fear not ladies the women's syllabus is optional. If you don't want to do it just continue with the standard grading syllabus, no probs. Check it out in the members section.
